I've found that a fishermen's knot with two turns at the end makes a decent end knot for shoving in the center. creates a nice sized knot out of every size rope i have tied it on. The knot doesn't work anywhere near as well if it doesn't have some sort of center in it. (i may have the knot name wrong but you end up with two revolutions of cord around end of the line. it gives a good center on everything from para cord, to 1inch doc line, which yes ends up huge and takes a ton of rope)

We wasted so much time once on a backpacking trip trying to tie that knot. Needed to chuck the rope over a high branch to hoist up a bear bag. Never did get the knot right but we did get the line up there eventually. Now if only I had seen this I could've saved the day!
