Sorry guys,
Disregard that last message... I found the info I was looking for. So basically the "Mil/LE" kit is everything in the standard kit, with an upgraded QuikClot Z-Fold Combat Gauze? What is the purpose of the x-ray detectable strip? Is it so that higher echelon care can more readily identify the gauze if it is packed deeply into a wound? Why would that make it a Mil/LE only product?

Again, sorry for the first silly post, I must have scanned by it too quickly!

Thanks again,
VT Sheepdog

Just wondering what the differences between the "Basic", "Standard", and "Mil/LE" kits are?! I scoured both the store and this article looking for them, but could not find a breakdown of each level of BOK.

Thanks in advance,
VT Sheepdog

After seeing this video I had to figure out what a needle decompression was used for, and I found this video. Great insight, and very clear use: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tqllpaYqROw
Keep up the great video posts!

Well, athletic tape really acheives the same porpose that an ace wrap can, and more. It can act as a compression bandage, hold a dressing in place, stabilize a sprained joint, tie up your enemies, add grip to your gear, is non reflective (meaning it wont give away your position), and comes in multiple colors, including black. So, it may be a good idea to add.

Mike,

Thanks for the comment and sharing your experiences. If an NPA does require tape we include the two pack of HALO Seals, and a piece can be used to secure the NPA.

Great information on the Basal Skull Fracture and non-use of the NPA in that situation.

Just FYI. Putting a NPA requires the use of tape 50% of the time. A lot of the times it will be pushed out. I am a flight medic in army and see this all the time.

Also we are seeing misuse of the NPA a lot now, because they are so available. Most people (including medics) don't know they are not to be used with a Basal Skull fracture. So our SOP is if you see the symptoms of head injury, don't use a NPA to avoid the risk of intracerebral placement of the NPA.

Fastmover,

We agree with the primary need for training and familiarization with the tools, but in our opinion, not having the training for a Blow Out Kit does not negate the purpose of carrying one.
As stated below, the kit could potentially be used on you by someone who has the training, and why not have the tools there for them that they need?

Thanks for the comment!

Zach,

The BOK is made for addressing the three leading causes of preventable death in the field, and having tape is not required. There's nothing in our BOK that requires the use of tape, and we've designed it that way.
Sure there's uses for medical tape, but is it essential? That's the question we asked ourselves when building this kit.

Thanks for the question.
