There are thousands of mountaineering products available. Remember ‘light is right’ and only bring what you need.
If you have no training, get it so you can make good educated decisions.
Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines are deploying to mountainous regions every day. Few have proper mountaineering training or experience. This leads many to ask, “What gear do I need?” Fortunately the answers are simple. [Read More…]
We just received an email from Mark at LaRue Tactical about an offering they’ve put together for a Ft. Hood Fundraiser Special-Edition “Texas” Beverage Entry Tool.
They’re offering these as a fundraiser for the families of the fallen soldiers of the tragedy that occured November 5th, 2009 at Ft. Hood, Texas.
The attack on our soldiers was close to home for LaRue, and they felt compelled to help in a special way. This is a wonderful gesture from the fine folks at LaRue, and we all appreciate everything they’re doing to support those we’ve lost. [Read More…]
Our Knot of the Week series resumes this week with another fishing knot known as the Blood Knot.
The Blood Knot is primarily used for joining two sections of monofilament line together, but as there are many ways to joint to lengths of line together, why choose this one?
The most common of these is the Double Fisherman’s Knot, which is a considerably strong knot and holds securely. In fact it’s stronger and more secure than the Blood Knot. [Read More…]

Today is Veterans Day, and all of us at ITS Tactical are currently serving or are veterans ourselves and would like to say thank you from the bottom of our hearts for all that each one of our fellow brothers and sisters in the service does for this country.
We’ll never forget those who came before us, those we’ve lost along the way, and those still fighting the good fight.
A wonderful article was posted by someone we follow on Twitter, titled “101 Ways To Thank a Veteran.” We encourage everyone to check out the article on MilitaryAvenue and thank a veteran today!
I’ve now been to three CERT (Community Emergency Response Team) classes and am halfway through the training.
The education I’ve received has been enlightening to say the least, but there still a nagging in the back of my mind.
What I’m having the biggest moral dilemma with is the CERT policy of not helping someone in need. [Read More…]

If you notice some things out of whack on the site, please bear with us as we’re making changes.
Our Knot of the Week series will return next Monday.

We’ve been like little kids trying to hide a secret about what we feel is the best and most versatile blow out kit on the market today!

The term “blow out kit” comes from the Military, and refers to a medical kit to treat life threatening wounds in the field.
Our take on the terminology is that just like a tire has a blowout, so can you if you’re severely injured.
A blow out kit is the human equivalent to a tire’s patch kit, which treats the sustained damage.
Just as a patch kit is a temporary fix for a tire, a blow out kit is a temporary fix until a higher echelon of care can be reached.
A blow out kit is designed to treat the three leading preventable causes of death in the field. [Read More…]
