Dirt Time 2010

by The ITS Crew on December 20, 2009

logoWe wanted to give our readers a heads up about an event that you may or may not have heard of before called Dirt Time.

Dirt Time is a yearly Survival and Self-Reliance event that will take place in Wyoming this year, June 13-18, 2010.

Instructors from various backgrounds and skill-sets converge for the week-long gathering to teach their respective skills to attendees and participate in all the information sharing-activities.

ITS Tactical is proud to sponsor Dirt Time 2010 and will be donating our ETA Kits to be raffled away at the event.

Urban E&E 01Close your eyes for a minute and join me on a little adventure… You’re walking down the sidewalk and pass two shady figures talking amongst themselves.

As you pass them, you see the side door of a van open up just in front of you and two more suspicious characters emerge.

Within seconds, you’re restrained and struggling against four people trying to overpower you and throw you into the van.

Now, based on our readers vs. the general population, your response right now is to say “I’d shoot them before they had the chance,” OK Dirty Harry, but now your in a foreign country where your concealed handgun license doesn’t protect you.

Or, you’re in that same foreign country and gunmen jump into your rental car and tell you to drive… [Read More…]

Surv-A-Disaster-600pixThe book Surviving A Disaster by Tony Nester has been on our recommended reading list for quite some time.

What this book has to separate it from all the other survival books out there, is how to develop a mindset of self-reliance.

Self-reliance is a guiding principle we took to heart when developing ITS Tactical. We strongly believe that without the proper mindset, all we attempt to teach here is potentially wasted.

Through preparation, learning and applying these skills with reinforcement, the proper mindset will be attained. This is what Nester drives home in Surviving A Disaster. [Read More…]

Survival Myths

by The ITS Crew on May 28, 2009

Emergency BookNeil Strauss, who wrote the book Emergency: This Book Will Save Your Life has published a list of the top ten myths of emergency and disaster preparedness on his Web site www.neilstrauss.com (PDF Download)

We’ve published the list here in it’s entirety, because we think it’s excellent information that everyone should know if they don’t already.

If you haven’t had a chance to read Strauss’ book, we highly suggest you add it to your reading list. There is a wealth of information contained inside and should be read by anyone who has even considered preparing for the worst.

Mini Survival Kit Update 01After writing about the Mini Survival Kit a few days ago, I started to rethink mine, and came up with some modifications. I stumbled on the Web site of John McCann’s Company, Survival Resources, which has some great products! McCann is the author of Build the Perfect Survival Kit which I quoted in the previous article.

For starters, I purchased three of the smallest pencils I’ve ever seen so I could throw one in my kit and use the plastic vial they come in for fishing supplies. I now have all the fishing hooks, leaders, weights and sewing needles in this tube and it organizes them quite nicely. [Read More…]

Mini Survival Kit

by The ITS Crew on April 25, 2009

minisurvivalkit01A good survival kit is one of those things you just don’t leave the house without. It’s a small insurance policy for what we may run into in life, and the kit we’ll be reviewing today is definately “small”.

You can stick this kit in the pocket of your shorts, a jacket or pretty much anywhere you can fit a wallet… Well, most wallets. If you carry a Costanza you’d be able to fit a kit much easier. Mini survival kits should at the very least hold the essentials for survival, but on a miniature scale. [Read More…]

Emergency Book

I haven’t been much in the reading mood lately, but Emergency: This Book Will Save Your Life by Neil Strauss is amazing! I finished all 418 pages the same day I bought it. I can’t say that a book has held my attention like this ever before. Emergency is packed with information on how to increase your odds of surviving and escaping when SHTF.

Strauss has in depth information on obtaining multiple passports, living off the grid, crossing the border, lock picking, protecting your assets, Swiss banking and the art of disappearing. I can’t say that I have any money for an off-shore account, but we can dream can’t we?

If you’ve ever read Atlas Shrugged by Ayn Rand then this book is for you.
