As an average guy with a day job, I spend about 9% of my waking hours inside my vehicle. This is mostly driving to and from work, but also driving my family around, running errands, and other assorted tasks.
Having a preparedness mindset, I decided that some self extraction tools for my vehicle would be a good idea.
One of the tools I felt best to acquire first was a Benchmade Rescue Hook Model 7 ( previously reviewed by ITS: Cut Your Way Out in An Emergency Situation). The 7 Hook is a excellent piece of gear, but being presented with a MOLLE sheath was a problem. Over time, MOLLE attachments have become pervasive in our environment, but not in our vehicles.
There are seat back panels for HMMWV and other vehicles, but I needed the 7 Hook up front and in reach. So I contacted Jones Tactical for a solution, and we came up with the MOLLE Visor. [Read More…]
I am pretty sure most of our readers, if not all, are familiar with the Mystery Ranch name. They not only offer some of the best military packs around, but hunting, fire/trail and recreation packs as well.
What I’ll be revieweing today is the new Skiritai Pack from Mystery Ranch. You’re probably wondering a little about the name, so let me fill you in.
The Skiritai were the Spartan rangers which formed the left flank in combat, acted as scouts, and were the only unit allowed to proceed the Spartan King. [Read More…]
I’ve owned my SnowPeak Titanium Mini-Solo Cook Set for the better part of four years now, and while it hasn’t been in continuous use, it’s gotten me through many multi-day adventures.
The set works best for one person, as the name implies, and a great option for lightweight backpacking or to complement a larger cooking set.
I found that while the titanium doesn’t conduct heat like aluminum will, it still stays hot when used to boil water. The handles on both pieces stay fairly cool to the touch as well, but not made for people with large hands. You’ll wind up singing your fingers on the hot surface if you’re not careful. [Read More…]
Today I’m going to talk about a Safariland drop configuration you can custom make out of a standard 6004 holster. All it takes is a $14 accessory and a little bit of time.
While you may already be familiar with the 1.5″ drop Safariland UBL (Universal Belt Loop) Adapter, you may have also noticed how it flaps around on your draw. That alone was enough for me to shelve the adapter and discount it as a viable option.
A buddy of mine recently told me about a simple modification he and his team were running, that not only used the UBL, but used it without the trouble I’d encountered. [Read More…]
We received a press release yesterday from Dana over at Bulldog Tactical Equipment letting us know that the Venom Industries Website is now live.
Venom Industries is a sister site to Bulldog Tactical and was created to open another avenue of sales to not only the Military, Government and Law Enforcement, but civilians as well.
While there’s an excellent product line up already on the Venom Website, absent are their Mirage Camouflage uniforms for civilian sale, which according to Dana, are “still a possibility for the future.” While we at ITS understand their reasoning behind keeping uniforms restricted to select individuals, we know many were looking forward to their availability through Venom.
As we’ve previously mentioned, they have been releasing Mirage Camouflage fabric to vendors such as OC Tactical, and also carry select items in Mirage on the Venom site.
We’ll keep you posted with further developments on Mirage, which will again be included in our upcoming Camo Comparison and seemed to dominate Multicam in the environment of our last comparison.
We’re thrilled to be releasing this article today, as we’ve finally found a product that we feel deserves our endorsement for Military and Law Enforcement use. We’re not trying to sound arrogant, but we’ve tested a lot of restraints and broken just as many.
We strongly believe that if Plastic Restraints have a purpose in Military and Law Enforcement use, they should be strong, durable, and able to resist a overhead brute force attack. What Milspec Plastics has done is create not one but two solid options that we’re proud to say have the toughest locking mechanisms we’ve ever tested.
Their Cobra Cuff and Tactical Zip Tie represent a reassurance in restraints that we thought we wouldn’t find for some time, and a company that’s dedicated to producing a product that will keep our officers and soldiers safe. [Read More…]
Hopefully you’re already familiar with our good friend Mil-Spec Monkey who produced our awesome ITS Tactical Patches. Today we’re going to be reviewing a few of his products called the MSM MegaPatch Book and the MSM Loop Panels.
The MegaPatch Book can serve double duty as not only a place to display your patch collection, but also a discreet case for a concealed weapon using the MSM Loop Panels. Similar in function to a gun rug, but with removable panels to truly customize the layout. [Read More…]
I was first introduced to the Hatch XTAK knee pads about two years ago when a Hatch representative gave a few pairs to our team to try out. I got to try them on is all, and never got to wear them again because other operators claimed them as their own.
I personally liked their feel, but I was not a big knee pad wearer at the time. I’d never found the comfort and flexibility I needed. The knee pads most of my team are issued are the basic Hatch Centurion style and they always seemed to fall down to your ankles, slide to the side, or end up tangled in your gear.
After a few bumps and bruises to my knees over the years, I decided to give the Hatch XTAK knee pads a try and picked up a pair for about $25.00 with shipping. I immediately loved these knee pads because they had the one thing I’d never found before on any knee pad I’d ever worn or tried on; Rapid Deployment Hook and Loop Clips. The way the knee pads secure to your knees alone is reason enough to wear these. [Read More…]
We’ve just noticed that 215 Gear has not only released their fantastic Rigger’s Belts in Black, but also rounded off the tail on their Ultimate Rigger’s Belt to match their Enhanced Rigger’s Belt.
This was something we felt would be a welcome addition back when we reviewed the ERB a few months ago. Check out our URB review too if you haven’t seen it yet, these are truly the finest Rigger’s belts we’ve had the pleasure of wearing. Look for some videos coming soon, where we’ll be demonstrating emergency rappelling with the belts.
There are also more great new items from 215 Gear like their Blended Operator Hat that’s now available in Black and also with Signaling Panels built in. Head on over and check it out!
Oakley knows they really hit the mark with their assault gloves. Their appearance and overall design got them a contract with the U.S. military Special Forces community and many private contracting agencies all over the world.
However, putting the name brand aside let’s take a non-biased look at how they perform operationally and in training. [Read More…]
