I have a friend in the DFW area, that is just getting into personal defense and firearms training.  He does not need the "Aerial Platform/HALO Sniper Course" but would benefit from a good foundation in basic handgun and shotgun usage.  So, I am asking on his behalf for recommendations for trainers, training courses, and training facilities to recommend. Thanks in advance!Mustang

Off the top of my head: Cawthon Cartrige club outside College Station hosts a ton of training from some well known instructors. Sheepdog Solutions is another group that is GTG. They teach around central Texas, often just north of Austin at Best of the West range.

Also check into 21st century gunfighter. Stephen Pineau is a quality instructor that does handgun, carbine, and shotgun just to start. His level 1 courses are really geared for entry level shooters.

Check out.....VX Marksmanship in Alvarado. Dan is a great instructor. Former Recon scout/sniper and a wealth of info. His range setup is pretty good(I helped him do some work on it)

Not sure where you are on this, but to add to the list of Texas-based training locations for you (or the other members) ...

Hey Guys, I have not been on here in a long time and had actually forgotten about this forum.....been so busy with work and family.  I thought this might be the place to post this.

If anyone is looking for some excellent training here in Texas, there is a class that is being held in Brady, Texas this coming Feb/Mar.

They are really needing people for the first package so that we can keep the Texas classes going in the future. If you are interested in getting off the square range

and learning SUT (small unit tactics) then this is the place. You'll start at the basics on the square range, from zeroing, to weapons manipulation and stoppage

drills, and on to movement/mobility and on to team tactics.  I was very impressed with the first class last year, and am signed up for the second class this year.

On the second package the only part that doesn't have a prerequisite would be the Force on Force class using UTM rounds, this is to get more people interested

in Max's classes.  If you are into of the run-n-gun type courses, this should be up your alley. I hope we can get some people interested, this will really open your eyes if

all you have ever done is square range shooting.  There is a fitness prerequisite, for safety reasons and concerns, so take that into consideration.

FYI, necroposting is frowned upon here except under certain circumstances. In the future, please make a new thread rather than reviving a thread that's been put to rest for over 5 years.

As Seen on: M4Carbine.net, GlockTalk, and NCGO.

Depends on who you're talking to. I'm pretty lenient if the topic is open discussion. I'm only tripped when someone asks a specific, closed circuit question that was already answered years before.

I used to frequently correspond with these guys.  I always found their advice to be 'spot-on'.  Dallas Fort Worth Pistol Range.
