Hey guys. New here from California. Seventeen years old and a high school Senior, enlisting in either the Army or the Corps in less than a year.

Some things I'd like to get out of ITS are some pieces of advice from vets, of both the military and the private sector, on a lot of things. Got a lot to learn and looking forward to getting to know you all.

I'm biased, but either the Army or the Marines will do you just fine.

However, you should watch this video as some food for thought

Just saying.

Corporal, USMC

3/6 Lima Co

2008-2012

However, if I could do it all over again? I'd go Army, get an Option 40 contract (Ranger) and try out for the Regiment. Better training, better opportunities, depending on what you want to do and the kind of person you are.

I'm going in for intel. Either the 02-series or the 35-series. I'd love to be gathering it as opposed to analyzing it, but I'll do whatever to get into that field.

I knew a few intel guys. Just be smart on what you do. One of them ruined his chance of ever getting his TS clearance, and that clearance will take you far in life as far as job opportunities.

Intel guys in the Corps or the Army? Also, how did he ruin his chances, if you don't mind me asking?

Marine Corps. I forget exactly how, I think he started having financial issues. But anything an enemy could use against you or could use to try to pry information is a big liability.

I.e., if you're 20k in debt, then a foreign country could pay off your debt in exchange for information. Big liability.

I'm seventeen, I have no debt.

As far as I understand, the 02-field just analyze intel, or am I mistaken?

In the Marine Corps you will not be a HUMINT collector as an entry level Marine. That job is strictly for Marines who have completed time in service requirements. It's also very difficult to get in as there's a whole host of other requirements.

The Army however has entry level HUMINT collectors, the MOS is 35M. If you want to collect that bad, the Army is your only option.

The 02 field collects and analyzes. It all depends on what you do. But you will not be collecting as an entry level Marine.
