Thanks everyone. It is part of a larger kit. I tried to keep it as modular as possible so that I can adapt it to what I need. If I am going day hiking I can take just a couple things, or if I am going car camping with the family I can take the whole kit. The green maxpedition bottle pouch holds the radio and everything needed to get on the air with 5w 160-2m, including antenna.

I like more than just HF too. I built a pi TNC for an APRS station. It was a easy project and lots of fun.

Attached is my gear not counting my numerous handhelds.

I'm planning to have capability in every single ham band including microwave and the unlicensed bands

You'll see in the photos I have a 2m low band amp, a 2m digi rig, 220 rig, an ft-857d for hf and some satcom, etc...

I have some more but figured I'd toss these up real quick as they are photos I already had on my computer.

The large stack of rigs is actually an old 2m rig into a 6m transverter up to a 100 watt amplifier.

How do you like the FT-857D? It's been quite a while since I've been on HF and have been eyeing that rig, but just haven't pulled the trigger on it yet.  My other dilemma is living in a strict HOA and minimal space in the attic.  So just running 2m/440 currently.
