Thought this was an interesting article and figured I would share:

http://loadoutroom.c...GYK1o.facebook

I also read this today and thought it was a good read

http://www.personald...armed-and-ready

Both articles got my grey matter thinking ...

I'm currently carrying a G21. After reading these I may switch back to my M&P9mm I usually carry 2 extra mags either way so the 9mm would afford 52rounds vs the 40rounds of .45acp - havent made any decisions yet still just milling things around in my head... I really dont think either matters what caliber you carry .... carry what you can comfortably and accurately shoot. Training is far more important in my head than caliber choice.

This post is NOT about the age ol 9mm vs 45 debate...

If I could do it all over again I'd get all my handguns in 9mm.

This article is what did it for me.

I spent the money and made the switch on my carry guns from .40 to 9 and it is the best gun related choice I have ever made... I just wish I would have figured it out sometime over the past 10 years that my best friend has been trying to convince me, but I guess I'm a slow learner sometime. Any new semi-auto handguns I buy from here on out will be 9 without a doubt.

Of course not, we all know 9mm takes the cake ;) , jk.

I decided to go with 9mm first because I feel the round is capable enough, I could carry a good amount of ammo on my person (even just in the weapon itself without any spare mags), and because other members in my family went with weapons in that caliber so I wanted to be able to share ammo; that last point has been of great benefit in regards to reloading. I would like to get something in .40 to have for variety but I do not plan on ever giving up 9mm.

+1, I read that a while ago (not sure if it was before or after I made my choice about cal.) but it definitely goes to show that sometimes you just need a s#!tload of ammo even with good shot placement.

Yeah the 9mm is the best way to go without a doubt. Tell you what, send me all that nasty ole .45, I'll take the hit for the team and wear the burdon. :0)

I haven't read the links that were posted in the items above, the thing i found interesting in the article I did read on this was it kept mentioning the performance of "high end 9mm" ammo when compared to .45 cal. i'll have to look at the articles above, but it would be interesting to see what 9mm they were testing and how it compares to what the members here shoot at the range or carry for personal defense.

I'm guessing "high end" probably refers to SD-specific ammo like Fed Hydrashock or Speer Gold Dot as opposed to some lesser-known JHP.

I carry Hornady Critical Duty. 84 rounds of the stuff. And I'm confident in it.

Yeah I'd be willing to bet it would be something considered a normal "issued" type ammo instead of a winchest white box type ammo

Ive been lookin for this link!!! (couldnt remember where I read it) This shootout was actually referenced in the second link I posted.

One of my responses (when i carried the 9mm) to the .... "you're not going to stop anything with that" crowd .... was - I have 18 rounds in this weapon. If just 50% of my rounds make their mark center mass thats 8 potentially critical hits ... if BG is still walking my way ... i'm freakin running my ass off while i'm reloading .. usually followed by a snarky question of how many they have shot n stopped with your .45 ?

A miss with a .45 is still a miss.

Bare with me as I'm on my little Old IPhone.

The kicker with .45 l, while it is a massive round, it is slow compared to others. So muzzle energy is low. There is infamous story in my agency from years ago, (we have a lot of 1911 fans in my department) where a deputy was dealing with a woman in the car. Driver seat, door was open. Deputy was talking to her and she pulled a gun. She was mental. He stepped back and shot her from a bout 5 feet away to the head. The round failed to penetrate. Gave her a concussion.

Plus round count is very important. And this day and age counter fire or covering fire are becoming a major tool in the tactical set.. We are taught it. With 8 rounds in the weapon it goes fast.

Barnes TAC XP all copper 9mm 115 gr. moving at 1200+ fps. There are several different known manufacturers offering ammunition with this bullet.

I roll either Hornady Critical Duty or Hornady Critical Defense and would bet my life on either. I have never met a weapon that will not reliably cycle the stuff either. Never had a bad round, never had a quality control issue of any sort. I think 9mm is the best all around handgun round and I think that ballistic testing with rounds like the Hornady Critical series shows that you can create a super massive wound channel without having a weapon that only carries 7 rounds. And above all... shot placement shot placement shot placement.

Just picked up a box of that stuff because it was a bit less expensive than the Hydra Shoks right next to it; now I've got to get around to testing out both out of my pistol and maybe get a couple other HPs to try out.

Agreed.

Comes out doing pretty well in every test I've seen.

I love sgammo, expect that I get hit with state taxes when I order from them. But they have awesome prices on their ammo and especially their Circle 10/21 AK-74 mags when in stock.
