Hi, I'm in the Buffalo, NY area and think it's time that I get a new hat for the winter. We live right on Lake Erie so we get plenty of lake effect snow and frigid wind chill.

Any good recommendations for headwear?

Thanks.

I've been running an UnderArmor beanie that's been good to my shaved head in down to -7 with unknown windchill. (Hunting)

It is big enough that I can pull it down over the back of my neck and ears but not cover my eyes.

Under Armor Watch cap and a baseball cap did fine for this Texan last winter when I was in Sioux Falls, SD every week

CIF issued coyote beanies, and the original older black ones that are operator as fuck.

Everyone had the brown bear fleece, except me. I snagged a black bear fleece (USMC version of a Northface) and rocked the black beanie. Hell I even had black gloves. Pissed the command off royally, but it was worth it being OAF.

+1 for the underarmour beanie

I also carry a wool buff. Can be a neckwarmer, beanie, balaclava, and lots of other things.

Thats the way to do it. Last time I was in the field (just a few weeks ago), I never wore my blouse over my sweatshirt and the rare times I had my m4 on me, it was rocking my magpul moe stock. The mt chief/company gunny out there kept ragging on me for my illegal weapon mods and all I told him was "comm's above the law, dude." They couldn't say shit to us, MEF said we were the best comm team from all the elements participating in the exercise.

I prefer a fleece beanie at work, or the cheap one I got at walmart years ago.

I bet spence is reading these and laughing, EOD is OFP at all times.

There was an EOD gunny we had for both our tours from Lejeune, the shit he'd tell me about how chill it was at the shop was unreal.

It also helped that he was the coolest Asian dude I ever met, except he was actually smart, unlike yours truly who could never do EOD because of my inability to work with numbers rofl

And Jersey EOD is super chill, poetry much every rule is optional to us, except the only rule: don't get caught.

So yeah, if you're cold wear what you have to to keep warm, just don't let a 1stSgt see you until you're a gunny or higher. You get more OFP points the higher your rank. Once your a MSgt you have to break a law before you're in hot water.
