I guess every situation calls for different gear, but my main situation is travel, work and home life.  So my 1st line everyday gear would be my CCW pistol.  So depending on what I have to wear is either a 1911 or XDm .40.  Im looking into something smaller for better concealment but these have been fine so far. JC

JC, the wife and I both have the XD .40 also and love them though we have the 4" and have considered looking into the sub-compact models.  Who makes your 1911 and how do you like it?

Depending upon where I am going and the occassion I usually carry an H&K USP Compact in 9mm...I also sometimes carry a Springfield Armory 1911 with a 4" barrel. Also I always carry a knife...usually a 3-3.5" tactical folder ( Emerson, Benchmade or Boker )! I highly recommend carrying a knife at all times, it really does come in quite handy more times than you would think. Dependent on your local laws most states allow 3" and under for personal carry....an Emerson "Snubby" is a GREAT choice....if you can find one. If you don't want to spend the money on an Emerson than Benchmade makes a MINI-PIKA with a 2.7" blade...design is very similar to the discontnued MINI AFCK but would only cost you around $30.file:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Lee%20Hadziyianis/Desktop/24-DEFAULT-m.jpgfile:///C:/Documents%20and%20Settings/Lee%20Hadziyianis/Desktop/24-DEFAULT-m.jpg

OFF DUTY: Either Glock 27 or Sig P239, +1 reload, TDK Knife, Folding knife (currently CRKT), cell-phone and a loathing for any type of clothing that would restrict my ability to "operate" if it becomes necessary. (1 pair of cuffs although that is a perk most people don't need). On Duty: Glock 21 with TLR1 (C4), TDK knife, two backup knifes (1 is none, 2 is one) +4 reloads, Taser and baton/radio/cuffs x3.  Hopefully within the next few weeks the light for life for its 90 sec charge time.

Its a Taurus 1911B-1.  I wanted an entry level 1911 to start with and I love it.  I've had a hard time finding a holster for it.  Raven, Comp-tac and Crossbreed dont make a holster that will handle this 1911 with a light (or without).  Probably will resort to making my own kydex holster.

An old fashioned ball-point pen with steel cartridge.  Pepper spray disguised as hair spray.  A mini mag lite flashlight that will crack a skull even though it's 'mini' and looks cute.  38 years of learning and experience.  A vigilant awareness.  When the situation allows, a Kimber 1911 Tactical II custom.

I feel your pain @BandAid.  I work full time in Washington DC but live in Virginia.  Virginia has great laws but DC is just a locked down mess.  That's why you have to get creative and carry your EDC blade or pepper spray or "tactical pen."

DC is a rough area and yea we have a Republican Governor now so who knows. The problem is we are the most densely populated state in America and the counties are so diverse. 30 min south of me there are people with 10 teeth for the town and 30 min North, well might as well be NYC.

Sorry to continue with a derail but I wholeheartedly agree, 9Chase.  I really do not understand the mindset where I am not only allowed but ORDERED to carry both a9mm sidearm and a .223 carbine daily for a full year now (along with many that are inept at their use/care and are more a danger to themselves/others than the enemy) but the moment I return home somehow magically become incapable of responsibly arming myself.  Between that and the draconian weapon registering required if you live on base makes me wonder just how dedicated the services really are to private ownership and bearing of firearms.

Unfortunately, I don't see the gun policy on post changing at all soon. The post commander here (Ft. Hood) already made the gun laws much more strict and more enforced. I wish I could conceal on post and I know if there were soldiers, at the shooting, concealing at the time it probably would have stopped much sooner and with less casualties. Horrible thing that happened and really I can't blame the general, that is what he has to do to make the families happy.Makes it a pain though to use the on post, free, range with a pretty nice 100m rifle portion but whatever.

Given I'm in Australia I usually only have my mudman g'shock, SOG EOD multi-tool, Petzl tikka XP headlamp, iphone 3gs, thuraya 7100 prepaid sat phone and a Jesen Elite Blades custom survival knife. I use a Jimi Wallet and basically just carry the bare minimum of cash and cards in the wallet itself (it only takes about 5 cards) and keep a twenty in each shoe. For my civvy belt I wear a Mountain Hardware aluminium buckled so I don't look overly suspicious when I'm minding my own business.
