I'm adjusting my loadout in my outdoor backpack. I have a great pair of Zeiss 8x42 binos that I've used for hunting, but I think they might be big and bulky in my bag. Thinking of trying a monocular. Any advice or suggestions?

I have a Vortex Solo 8x36 that I carry fairly regularly, and have been happy with.  I got the one with the MRAD reticle in it, but that's just a matter of preference.

I don't personally carry any sort of magnified optic in my EDC however I'm a fan of pretty much anything made by vortex.  They have a rock solid set of products and a great warranty.

Thanks guys. I am really looking at the Vortex options. Maybe slip one in on the next Amazon order if my wife isn't wary!

I have a Bushnell monocular. 8x. Think it was about $120.

I didn't expect much out of it, but wanted to try something new. It has now completely replaced my $500 binoculars for hunting, and I usually either have it in my pack everyday, or at least in my car. Love the utility of it, and how small and light it is.

I have added a monocular to my EDC bag. I used to keep it in the center console of my truck. After a recent Jason Bourne fixation, it migrated to my bag so I, too, can stand atop buildings and watch who I'm talking to on the phone.

I have an old beater that stays in my center console, 10x and only about $30 -- a lot cheaper than my aforementioned Vortex mono, so it's the designated loaner.

Brunton 10x Mono

I remember getting mine when I was in 7th grade for Christmas, 22 years ago. I got several related items including a brass match case and a tan shirt that looked like the one Jack Hannah always wears, lol. I think it's the year I also got a "real" sword.
