Here is my first attempt at painting a rifle using a technique taken from a friend of mine Duke from another forum. I have posted the pics as a step by step process that I did mimicking Duke's way he did his. Posted ImageEverything I started with and usedPosted ImageBase layer of Krylon Camo Tan with even strokesPosted ImageThrew in some Dark brownPosted ImageFish netting used to make a scale look before I applied the Krylon Camo Green Follow pics are the aftermathPosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted ImagePosted Image Posted ImageThis is my next project , my LMT Defender 2000….Its getting a tri-color coat of a different style. I used my buddies technique as because I never painted one before. The rifle I used was a RRA M4 style rifle that I got from a trade a few months back. Hope you all like and if you dont I dont care haha../wp-content/forum-smileys/anim_beer.gif/wp-content/forum-smileys/anim_sex.gif

Nice work, but I think that the scale effect is too subtle because of the thinness of the fish net.I've seen people get great results with protective plastic netting, like this.Posted ImageI have a Springfield SOCOM II on its way to my FFL and am considering painting the stock. Hopefully I won't chicken out and post some pics if I use the protective plastic netting.

Has anyone tried Aervoe camo paint? How does it compare to Krylon?

For the "snake skin" / scale pattern a sniper vail works well too.

These are all great!  I've always wanted to get into both gunsmithing and painting like the above examples.  I don't know that I'm brave enough to start with any of my AR's though.  I think I'm going to find a couple of beat up revolvers to both refurbish and practice my painting with.

Here's my BCM 14.5" Middy w/ PWS brake on a spike's lower. It's still a work in progress I couldn't find any dark brown to put into the mix that was flat. I'm pretty happy with it so far it's lighter than expected especially in the pic due to the flash but I think once I get some flat brown in there it will be ideal.Posted Image

Curious how you did this. I know they make stickers to put on and help you layer to pull of the digital, but it doesn't look like that. Anymore info?

I will be painting my rifle soon in a similar way. Probably will use those same three shades of krylon. I am going to try a two dollar mesh laundry bag to break up the pattern a bit instead of fish netting though. /wp-content/forum-smileys/thumbup.gif

Not the best pics, but here is one of my favorite AK's.Posted ImagePosted Image I built this one a couple of years ago. For the finish, I sandblasted it bare, parkerized it, and then airbrushed a black base with Gunkote, and airbrushed the OD Gunkote through netting. This one has an ACE folding stock and a Burris Fastfire 2 mounted on the Ultimak gas tube. I love the Burris/Ultimak combo because its the only one I found that sits low enough for co-witnessing with the iron sights if the optic goes out.
