Today marks the 9th anniversary of the September 11th attacks. Nine years. It seems like a long time ago, but for those that lost loved ones, friends and family it will never seem that way.
I try to stay out of political rhetoric and religion on ITS, and today I’m going to do my best. All I’m going to ask today is for everyone out there that may read this post, to reflect on where you were on 9/11. How it made you feel, and what this nation lost. Next, I’m going to ask that you take that perspective and apply it towards what’s currently going on in New York and the ramifications of what might potentially happen.
In case you haven’t been watching the news or talking to people who care about this country, there’s a Muslim Cultural Center building proposal two blocks from Ground Zero. Is that really what’s right? The Mayor of New York wants to let it happen, his argument is “should government attempt to deny private citizens the right to build a house of worship on private property based on their particular religion?”
What has happened to us in the time since the attacks? Have we forgotten what happened that day? How do you think those people felt, whose only choice was between being burned alive and leaping to their deaths? They were fathers, mothers, brothers and sisters. Do you think they felt that Islam is a “religion of peace?”
To those that are preaching about tolerance and religious equality, show me in the Qur’an where Islam is truly a religion of peace. I’m not talking about the early writings of Muhammad that have been invalidated by the later more violent passages either.
I feel it’s important that we not only turn this into a day of remembrance for those 3,000 lives lost at the hands of Islamic Terrorists, but also a day of reflection on where this country is and what it will become.
