ITS Tactical ETA Kit

ITS Blow Out Kit 01We’ve been like little kids trying to hide a secret about what we feel is the best and most versatile blow out kit on the market today!

Developed by our 18D Corpsman, and following the TCCC Guidelines, the ITS ETA Kit combines the very best items to treat the three leading preventable causes of death in the field.

These are Extremity Hemorrhage, 60%; Tension Pneumothorax, 33% and Airway Obstruction, 6%.

Our kit is named after these three preventable causes ETA (Extremity hemorrhage /Tension pneumothorax / Airway obstruction) and every item is carefully selected to complement the others, and serve multiple purposes.

We’re also excited about offering something new to the market in vacuum sealed kits.

Vacuum Sealing Closure

Traditionally when vacuum sealed  kits are opened they need to be re-vacuum sealed to prevent the unused contents from falling out.

The ITS ETA Kit comes vacuum sealed in a heavy duty poly bag that features an integrated zipper closure.

Once the ITS ETA Kit is opened, the integrated zipper can be used to reseal the bag and extend the usability of the kit.

Starter tear marks are visible on either side of the bag above the zipper closure to aid in opening.

Opening the bag via these tear marks will also ensure that the zipper closure will retain it’s function and utility.

The benefits of purchasing a vacuum sealed kit are durability, ensuring sterility of enclosed items, waterproof / moisture-proof packaging and compactness.

Details

Since dimension tolerances cannot be exact in vacuum sealing the measurements below are based on sampling.

The kit measures between 6.25″ and 6.5″ long x between 5″ and 5.25″ wide x between 2″ and 2.25″ tall.

We stress the importance of having an ETA Kit within your reach at all times, and these have been made to convientely fit in a cargo pocket.

They’re also small enough to fit in a glove box, backpack, laptop bag, briefcase, you name it.

There’s no reason you won’t have the room to always carry one of these near to you!

If you find that you don’t require the vacuum sealed packaging you can always remove the contents to load them into a pouch of your choosing, but first be sure to check the dimensions of the pouch to see if the whole sealed kit can simply be stored in the pouch.

We found that the sealed ITS ETA Kit fits perfectly inside an Eagle MLCS Medical Pouch (see photos).

Each ETA Kit is made as it’s ordered, and we’re able to guarantee a three-year shelf life on all the contents within our kits.

QuikClot Combat Gauze (1)

QuickClot Combat Gauze is impregnated with a hemostatic agent to treat life-threatening hemorrhage stopping arterial (artery) and venous (vein) bleeding in seconds.

The benefit over other hemostatic agents is primarily that it has no heat signature, which is commonly associated with hemostatic agents, and can cause burning.

Secondarily, it’s easy to pack into any size wound unlike other hemostatic agents like HemCon which has a cardboard like texture.

Unlike granular hemostatic agents like regular QuikClot, Combat Gauze can be removed easily.

Also, because of the no-heat signature it can be used as regular gauze to save space and for normal gauze applications without adverse effects. It can even be used for an eye bandage.

QuickClot Combat Gauze is also now the TCCC‘s agent of choice for first line treatment of life-threatening hemorrhage.

Comes individually sealed within the ITS ETA Kit

Israeli Battle Dressing (1 – 4″)

The IBD or Israeli Bandage is primarily used as a pressure dressing to stop hemorrhage and achieve hemostasis.

Sterile and non-adherent, the IBD consolidates a primary dressing, pressure applicator, secondary dressing and closure apparatus to secure the bandage in place.

The IBD can be self applied with one hand and also be used a field expedient tourniquet if one is not available.

H&H Compressed Gauze (2)

H&H PriMed Compressed Gauze is highly absorbent and used to stop bleeding and dress wounds, allowing air to circulate in order to promote healing.

Compressed Gauze can be used to fill the void of a wound packed with QuikClot Combat Gauze.

Packed, the compressed gauze measures only 2″ x 3″ and expands to 4.5″ x 4.1 yards.

Gauze can additionally be used to secure an NPA during an emergency cricothyrotomy by placing a gentle overhand knot over the NPA and securing the gauze around the back of the neck.

Two individual packages are included.

HALO Chest Seal (2)

The HALO Chest Seal / Dressing is used primarily as an occlusive dressing to treat a pneumothorax, or penetrating chest wound.

Secondarily, the HALO can be used to hold a bandage in place after packing a wound, to seal the area around an emergency cricothyrotomy (occlude), or occlude a chest tube.

This is done by folding the seal in half twice and snipping a corner to make a hole, and then placing over the NPA or chest tube to seal.

The benefit of the HALO Chest Seal over other occlusive dressings is that it actually sticks during excessive bleeding or heavy perspiration, and comes two per pack.

(This is not the HALO Vent) Comes individually sealed within the ITS ETA Kit

Decompression Needle (1)

A 14 Gauge 3.25″ long decompression needle is included to treat a tension pneumothorax by inserting the needle into the 2nd intercostal space in the midclavicular line.

The 3.25″ length needle is recommended to ensure it reaches the patient’s pleural space.

Our decompression needle comes in a tube to ensure the sterility of the internal packaging and prevent it from poking through the vacuum sealed Blow Out Kit.

Comes individually sealed within the ITS ETA Kit

NPA – Nasopharyngeal Airway (1 – 28F)

When a patient becomes unconscious the muscles in the jaw relax and they can swallow their tongue and obstruct their airway.

A 28F Rusch NPA is included for use on a semiconscious or unconscious patient to secure an open airway.

The 28 French Diameter is the most common adult sized diameter, and the included NPA features an adjustable ring that allows it to be sized specifically for the patient and acts as the flared end to prevent it from sliding down the nasal cavity.

Ace Wrap (1 – 3″)

We’ve included an Ace Wrap that can be used to stabilize a sprain, support an injury (splint), or as an additional pressure dressing.

Comes individually sealed within the ITS ETA Kit

Nitrile Gloves (1 Pair)

One pair of black non-latex Nitrile gloves are included for body substance isolation.

Combat Casualty Card (1)

The casualty card is used to mark what type of care has been provided, triage status / priority, tourniquet placement / time, vital signs, medications and patient information for higher echelon care.

Augment Items

One thing we haven’t included in our ETA Kits is a Tourniquet.

Primarily, this is to allow you to augment the kit with your Tourniquet of choice, but also to keep our costs low to you.

We recommend both the SOF-T Tourniquet or the C-A-T Tourniquet, and each have their positives and negatives that we’ll address in a separate article.

The largest difference is that the SOF-T has a metal windlass that we feel is superior to the CAT’s plastic windlass.

More pressure is applied to lower extremity injuries to achieve hemostasis, and we’ve seen the CAT’s windlass break being used on femoral bleeding.

Both Tourniquets feature a spot to write the time they were applied.
