Three Tips for Digital Housekeeping

Spring is in the air and it’s a great time to do a little digital housekeeping for your devices.

First, it’s time to update your passwords. It’s a good idea to invest in a password manager, which will help you create complex and unique passwords for all your online accounts. Additionally, consider updating device passwords like your WiFi security key and even your phone passcode.

Next, activate Two Factor Authentication on as many accounts as you can. This adds another layer of security and helps protect you from someone that may have obtained your password. For Two Factor, always try to use an authentication app instead of SMS messaging, as SMS is vulnerable to man-in-the-middle attacks.

Lastly, get your data backup strategy on track. If you’re currently using a cloud backup, try downloading some files on a separate device to ensure they’re working properly. Also consider investing in some physical hard drives to back up data and keep them separate from your devices in case of damage. With data backups, you can never have too many redundancies.
