A reader just sent us over an announcement letting us know ITS is eligible for a MILbloggie through Milblogging.com

We’ve heard about the MILbloggies before, and became listed there back in July of ’09, but had to read up on the nominations to learn more.

Essentially, you nominate a blog in order to recognize military bloggers who have contributed to blogging, news and information, and to the military over the past year.

Odor Testing DRIFIRE’s Newest Gen 4 Fabric

During the SHOT Show this year, we were able to get some face time with the crew at DRIFIRE to learn about their newest products and Gen 4 Fabric.

We found it interesting that while many have tested the FR (Flame Resistant) properties of their material, they mentioned no one had put the odor resistant properties to the test.

On their Web site they mention that with the FreshGuard technology, you can wear their shirts for days “we dare you!” We decided to accept that dare (and forgo the physical challenge, for all you DoubleDare fans).

Until one of us at ITS deploys again, we won’t be able to give this Lightweight T-Shirt the *ultimate* odor control test, but I’ve personally decided to put it through the ringer as best as I can here stateside. Continue reading →

At that time, we didn’t know whether we’d find a niche in this industry, or whether people would be interested in the information we presented.

We just knew that we were passionate about creating an open-source community of different methods, ideas and knowledge that could one day save your life.

Password Strategy and KeePass Password Management

If you’d like a better perspective on how  dependent  we are on digital services, imagine your bank account being looted, locked out of your email, and your Facebook page vandalized.

While we in the preparedness community like to focus on the beans, bullets, and bullion for someday, information security affects the now.

An AR and a stockpile of Mountain House may give you peace of mind, but until your online services and personal data are secured with strong passwords, you should feel exposed. It is by no means the only aspect of information security to be aware of, but for most regular people, it is the weakest link.

Fortunately, this is one of the threats that is  free and extremely  easy to neutralize. First I will explain the “why” behind passwords, and then the “how.” By the end, you should have an easier time managing passwords and have a way to secure your sensitive documents. Continue reading →
