Four on the Floor: Important Things to Consider When Selecting a Four-Wheel Drive Vehicle

Quite often, I see posts online from self-proclaimed experts talking about bugging out and overlanding. One of the most common statements made is that a 4×4 or All-Wheel Drive vehicle is essential to your survival. That’s not completely true and a staggering number of people have no idea what a four-wheel drive system actually consists of. Today I want to discuss the differences in vehicle drivetrains and the various options you have off-road when selecting a four-wheel drive system. Continue reading

Survival Kits vs. E&E Kits – Gear Tasting Radio 64

Many times in discussions, the terms Survival Kit and Escape & Evasion Kit are interchanged. This week on Gear Tasting Radio, we highlight some of the differences using two kits that we produce.

While we do offer both a Survival and E&E Kit, we try to stress that anyone can assemble these kits and we simply use the contents of ours to highlight the similarities and differences. In the end, the kits share quite a bit in common so the interchangeability of the term is definitely not without reason. Continue reading

Ugly But Effective: How the Sten Gun Became a WWII Workhorse

How to Properly Apply and Store a Tourniquet

Let’s begin this discussion with a caveat on tourniquets. Your belt isn’t an acceptable tourniquet and neither is a bandanna with a stick twisted in it. This is 2018; commercially available tourniquets are ubiquitous and have been proven over and over again to save lives. Don’t plan to improvise, plan to have a real tourniquet ready and available. Today I’ll be discussing how to properly apply and store a tourniquet. Continue reading

Want to Turn Your Article Ideas into Cash? Here’s How to Become a Contributor On ITS!

We’ve always made it our mission here on ITS to re-introduce people to skill-sets that empower them to prevail over life’s opposing forces. Much of the information we publish on ITS is written by our staff, but many articles are written and submitted by people just like you. Content from contributors allows our readers to see things from a different point of view and helps to showcase what an incredible community we have!

We’re currently looking for regular contributors on ITS, so if that sounds like something you’re interested in, read on below! We’ve listed what types of content we’re looking for and some guidelines on how to submit it to us. We’ve also instituted a very competitive compensation program, so if exposure, or even just earning extra revenue is your motivation, read on for more details.

Who are we looking for?

We’re always on the lookout for talented writers, but even if you’ve never published an article, our editorial staff can help to develop your topic and guide you in the right direction. Meaning, don’t let the fact you’re not a seasoned writer stop you from reaching out with an idea. We’re open to most any topic, as long as it’s insightful and builds on the the content we already feature on our site.

What are we looking for?

We typically like our articles to run between 750 to 2,500 words and be focused on a specific topic. We’re not really looking for Top 10 lists or pieces that are just aggregates of other content.

Great photography is a valuable part of any article, so the higher quality images you can provide, the better. We prefer contributing articles aren’t originally published or republished on other websites, unless this is discussed ahead of time. We take pride in the fact that our content is original and exclusive.

When are we looking for it?

As soon as possible! Some submissions are even published within days of receiving them. However, for pieces that are geared towards reviewing a product, we like for the author to have enough time to fully use and understand the item. We like reviews that capture what it’s like to actually use the item, rather than just unbox it.

Any time is a good time to submit your article to ITS and if it’s something we’re interested in publishing, we’ll follow up with you right away with all the details. We won’t be holding your content hostage for months at a time.

Where are we looking for it?

The best place to submit your idea or article is [email protected] From there, we’ll follow up with some contributor information and get the process started. Please note that we reserve the right to decline any material that’s submitted and any contributing articles that solely promote products you’re selling will be declined.

Why are we looking for it?

At ITS, we’re always looking to share information on the newest techniques and products. After nine years in business, what we’ve built is first and foremost a community. Rather than be the only voice in the community, we always seek to offer different ideas and opinions.

Some of the best articles we’ve run have been submitted by contributors and ITS exists as a resource for great content. Knowledge is power and our hope is that by publishing even more great content, we’ll give our contributors and readers more tools and knowledge to prevail.

Ready to submit your idea or article? Email us at [email protected] today!
