Hatch XTAK Knee Pads

I was first introduced to the Hatch XTAK knee pads about two years ago when a Hatch representative gave a few pairs to our team to try out. I got to try them on is all, and never got to wear them again because other operators claimed them as their own.

I personally liked their feel, but I was not a big knee pad wearer at the time. I’d never found the comfort and flexibility I needed. The knee pads most of my team are issued are the basic Hatch Centurion style and they always seemed to fall down to your ankles, slide to the side, or end up tangled in your gear.

After a few bumps and bruises to my knees over the years, I decided to give the Hatch XTAK knee pads a try and picked up a pair for about $25.00 with shipping. I immediately loved these knee pads because they had the one thing I’d never found before on any knee pad I’d ever worn or tried on; Rapid Deployment Hook and Loop Clips. The way the knee pads secure to your knees alone is reason enough to wear these. Continue reading

Third Navy SEAL Found Not Guilty!

A fitting ending to the ridiculous trials of three of our nation’s warriors. SO2 Matthew McCabe was found not guilty on all charges that he punched the terrorist scum Ahmed Hashim Abed.

Whistleblower extraordinaire MA3 Demartino was yet again painted as unstable, unreliable and distraught, according to the Fox News story. The story also mentions that he was worried his career would be ruined because a prisoner claimed abuse on his watch, and that he would no longer have a chance for his dream job with the California Highway Patrol. This, the defense claims, gives Demartino a motive to lie.

As far as his dream job, yeah… sorry buddy. Hopefully some people put in calls to the CHP letting them know to “keep an eye out” for your application.

So what does this prove? Absolutely nothing, other than dragging the warriors we depend on through the mud. This probably won’t set a precedent, and it’s only a matter of time before this happens again.

In fact, there’s talk of a courageous restraint medal now. That’s just what we need… Should we call in the airstrike? Well, if we don’t we could get a medal! Seriously?

Knot of the Week: Rigging a Tarp Shelter, Part 1

Tarp Shelter

I’d like to introduce a small mini-series on our Knot of the Week, where I’ll be running through the steps of rigging a tarp shelter using a few knots.

In this first part, I’ll demonstrate using a Slipped Half-Hitch and a Power Cinch Knot to tie a trunk line between two trees, which will form the backbone of the shelter system.

The trunk line provides a tight line to tie in your tarp and create the shelter. What’s great about the entire way we’ll show to rig this tarp shelter, is that using our knot techniques the entire system will have a “quick-disconnect” like feature, yet remain incredibly strong.

A trunk line can also be used to hang clothes to dry, or really anything that you’d like to drape over it.

Slipped Half-Hitch » Hitches

(Strength: 3/Secure: 3/Stability: 3/Difficulty: 2)

Power Cinch » Hitches

(Strength: 3/Secure: 4/Stability: 2/Difficulty: 4)

Please refer to our Knot of the Week introduction post for a description of what these ratings mean.

Uses:

  • Creating a Trunk Line using both knots
  • Slipped Half-Hitch can be used for numerous applications where a quick-release knot is desired
  • Power Cinch can be used for creating tension or a pulley

Tying Instructions:

Please view the gallery or YouTube video below for instructions on tying these knots and creating a trunk line.

Border Book: The Tactical Spanish Command Field Guide

If you’re like me, your Spanish is terrible, despite two years in High School and four semesters in College. Yes, I have some skill-set work to do myself, as languages have always been something I just can’t fully grasp.

I first came across the Border Book, the Tactical Spanish Command Field Guide, back in February while browsing the Facebook page of a fan who’d commented. I noticed the Border Book image in his profile picture and followed his Website link  to investigate. The description looked very interesting and I was intrigued to learn more.

Being in the minority that doesn’t speak fluent Spanish in Texas and coupled with my lack of the language skill-set, I thought it would be something great to purchase and review on ITS. When contacting J. Coyle, the book’s author, he was excited about the review opportunity. Continue reading

Longest Sniper Shot Record Broken!

British Super Sniper Craig Harrison has uprooted the Canadians for the longest sniper shot on record, 1.54 miles!

Not only did he beat the record by 150 ft., but took two shots that each killed a Taliban machine gunner. At 8,120 ft., which is 3,200 ft. further than the range of his Accuracy International L115A3, conditions had to be perfect. The .338 Lapua round again proves it’s worth in the battlefield.

The shots were taken in November of last year, when Harrison’s Household Calvary unit came under fire in Helmand, but the details surrounding the shots have only just been released. This article from dailymail.co.uk has some interesting details, and some good first hand information of the November events from Harrison.

Thanks to Mike P. for the tip via Twitter on Sunday!

SEAL Support Rally in Ft. Worth, TX

I just got back from the SEAL Support Rally in Fort Worth, TX and while I’d hoped to see more people out, it was awesome to see supporters for Matthew McCabe and the SEALs.

The Fort Worth event was organized by Josh Irving of SupportOurSEALs.com, who I had the pleasure of meeting at the rally. Josh single-handedly put together the Support our SEALs Website and we talked about teaming up to help promote his site.

Josh informed me that that SO2 McCabe’s trial had been moved to 1300 Eastern Time, and that the Norfolk support rally had around 100 to 150 people out in support today. I snapped a few photos in Fort Worth, while I watched with pride as all the cars going in and out of the Joint Reserve Base were honking at the supporters.

I’d like to encourage everyone to check out the SOS Website, and continue to pledge your support for these warriors and show them that the country has their backs!

Photos from today’s rally and Video from Fox News below. Continue reading

Navy SEAL Matthew McCabe’s Trial Today

The last trial begins today for a group of three Navy SEALs who chose court-martial over Admiral’s mast, in the alleged busted lip of terrorist Ahmed Hashim Abed.

Abed is being charged as the terrorist mastermind behind the insurgent ambush and mutilation of four Blackwater contractors on March 31, 2004 in Fallujah.

Two of the three SEALs, SO1 Huertas and SO2 Keefe, were both found not-guilty recently, and we’re hoping for the same outcome with SO2 McCabe.

There are a few support rallies scheduled for today at various locations below, hopefully you can make time today to show McCabe that the country has his six. Continue reading
